Privacy at Ghumakkad
Effective October 16, 2026
Ghumakkad helps you find places worth exploring. We don't have accounts, we don't run ads, and we don't use analytics or tracking tools. Here's exactly what happens to your data.
What we use and why
- Your location, only if you allow it. We don't look up your location automatically. When you tap Surprise Me, your browser asks whether to share your location. If you allow it, your approximate location, to within about 1 km, is sent to OpenStreetMap to find your town's name, and to our server, which asks Anthropic's Claude to suggest places near you. We don't store it.
- Your browser's language. The voice used for read-aloud follows your browser's language setting and is chosen on your device.
- What you type or upload in dream search, including any photo. It's sent to our AI provider to suggest destinations. We don't store it.
- Places you ask about with Know More. Only the place name and category are sent to our AI provider. Nothing about you is included.
- Your email, if you join the waitlist on the web. It's sent to our team inbox through Resend so we can tell you about launches. We'll delete it from our inbox if you ask.
Who processes it for us
- Anthropic (AI suggestions). When you use Surprise Me, Know More, or dream search, we send your location (your approximate location, to within about 1 km, only if you've allowed it) and city, the place name, or your destination text and photo to Anthropic to generate a reply. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models. It keeps it for a limited time, per Anthropic's commercial terms. We don't store your dream text or photos ourselves.
- Vercel (hosting). It serves our pages and runs our server functions, so it receives each request's IP address and standard browser details. Vercel keeps short-lived request logs.
- Resend (sending waitlist emails).
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim (turning your approximate location into a town name, only if you allow location).
- Unsplash. It loads the photos on our pages, and like any web request it can see your IP address.
- Google Maps Platform (3D map tiles on the web, only when you tap Explore in 3D). See the Google Privacy Policy.
We don't sell your data, share it for advertising, or combine it to track you across apps or websites.
Explore in 3D (Google Maps Platform)
Our 3D views use Google Maps Platform's Photorealistic 3D Tiles. This only happens when you tap Explore in 3D. Your browser then requests the 3D tiles directly from Google, so Google receives your IP address, standard browser details, and the place or area you're viewing. Because Surprise Me suggests places near you, that place can show roughly where you are. We don't send your name or anything you've typed. Google handles this data under the Google Privacy Policy.
In the iOS app
- Saved places and your daily usage counts stay on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them.
- The app asks for location only when you tap Surprise Me, and you can turn it off anytime in iOS Settings.
Children
Ghumakkad isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Your choices
You can say no to location and still use Surprise Me. You'll see sample places instead.
